Show Your Work
Privacy policy
Effective October 15, 2026
Show Your Work lays out what public records say about data center development. This page says what we collect about you, why, and how to change or delete it. We don't sell your information and we don't run ads or trackers.
01What we collect
If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address. That's the only profile information we ask for.
We also store what you do inside your own workspace:
- Questions you save — the wording, the project and chapter it belongs to, and the words you highlighted if you saved a highlight as a question.
- Explanations you ask for — the words you highlighted and the explanation we generated, kept so the same highlight doesn't have to be generated again. These are linked to your account so we can hold a daily limit.
- A record of your Google Drive connection, if you choose to export questions to a Google Doc.
We don't track which pages you visit beyond this, and we don't build a profile of your interests.
02Electric bills you upload
If you upload an electric bill, the file is read in memory to pull out the printed charges so you can compare them against the average bill for your utility area. We don't store the file, your name, your address, your account number, or your usage.
The example bill you may see on the Power & bills chapter is built from published federal figures for the average home served by your utility. It isn't a real bill and it isn't attached to anyone.
03Google Drive export
Exporting only happens when you click Export to Google Doc. At that moment we ask Google for permission to create files in your Drive — not at sign-in, and not for anything else in your Drive.
The document is created in your own Google account. You can revoke that permission at any time in your Google account permissions page, and deleting the connection here stops any further exports.
04AI features
Two parts of the app use AI: explaining a phrase you highlighted, and comparing a project to similar projects. In both cases the AI is given only the words you highlighted and the research already published for that project — never your name, email, or questions.
Generated explanations are stored against the project and the phrase, not against you personally, so a second person highlighting the same words sees the same answer without a new request.
05What we don't collect
We don't ask for your address, phone number, income, or household details. Nothing in the app is used for advertising, and your information is never sold or shared for marketing.
The research behind the app comes from public records about facilities and proposals — not from anything collected about residents.
06Who can see your questions
The questions you save are visible only to you. They are not shown to other users, to the projects, or to the public, and they are not attached to the project pages other people browse.
07How long we keep it, and your choices
We keep your account and saved questions while your account is open. You can delete any saved question from the My Work page at any time, and deleting the last one leaves nothing behind.
To close your account or have everything about you removed, email us. We'll confirm once it's done.
08Security
You can look around without signing in. Your saved questions are tied to your browser (or your Google account once you sign in) and are separated so no one else can read them. No system is perfectly secure, so tell us if you think something has gone wrong.
09Children
Show Your Work isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
10If this changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters to you, we'll update the effective date above and say what changed here.
